The letter
To leadership, This letter is my resignation, effective immediately. I'm leaving because the patterns I've raised since my second month are not patterns anyone intends to fix. We rebrand them every quarter. We name committees after them. We do not address them. I have spent the last year writing a deck that would convince a room of people who have already decided not to be convinced. I'd like that year back. I respect the work the team is doing. I do not respect the conditions they're being asked to do it under. I am no longer willing to be the person who tells them otherwise on the all-hands. The handoff doc covers what's mine. Everything else was already broken. — M.
The story
Three weeks before I sent this, my doctor asked me to describe a typical Tuesday. Halfway through, she stopped me. She said, "I don't usually interrupt, but I want to make sure you hear yourself." I didn't. So I wrote the letter that night. Sat on it for nineteen days. Sent it from a coffee shop with bad Wi-Fi so I couldn't take it back.
